10:30am-12:30am - Asaya (cane) Choreography (2 hours)
Roula will teach a folky and fun choreography to Hakim's "Ya Shok". The plan is to fly through the entire choreography in 2 hours! Bring your cane if you have one. If not, there will be some available. The choreography works without cane as well - for those who may want to get their cane chops up to speed later. High beginners to advanced students welcome.

1:30pm - 3pm - Om Laila Technique - a short and sweet introduction (1.5 hours)
Roula has been developing a system for teaching bellydance and related Arabic musical elements that is organized around the chakra system. The chakras are energy centres in the body that correspond to concentrations of nerve bundles in the central nervous system. They are quite literally extensions of the mind located in the body. In this workshop, Roula will teach the following

Om Laila components:
Resonance exercises for mapping the geometric shapes of bellydance through the chakras (such as undluations/waves, figure eights and circles). These exercises add depth, fluidity and intelligence to your technique. They are both challenging and meditative - and very yummy.

Zylls - Om Laila style: Built on a solid foundation in Jamila Salimpour's method, Roula elaborates on the basic patterns and gives technique that will add dynamics and musicality to your zyll playing.

Om Laila Vocalizations: Roula will teach a phrase that is emblematic of a maqam/mode (like a scale) from Arabic music. The phrase is sung into the chakras using the vowels and moving consonants from Arabic singing. You do NOT have to be a singer. This work is simple and deep. It will help you wake up your ears to the intricacies of Arabic music and open up your body in ways that only making sound can do. We will cover at least two modes (time permitting).

Bellydance Superstars Workshop

Jillina & Petite Jamilla Workshop

Jillina , main choreographer for the Bellydance Superstars, is coming to do a beautiful "Oriental" choreography set to a rich orchestral music. She will be using Egyptian technique with various combinations as well as giving you ideas for improvisation. In this workshop you will learn how to articulate your hips as well as enhance your fluid and lyrical movements. DATE: November 19th from 7 - 10 p.m. in Toronto - Ukranian Cultural Hall located at 83 Christie Street cost $75 (plus gst)

Petite Jamilla will be teaching the Modern drum choreography. A fun all levels fusion drum solo choreography that incorporates modern movements. In the choreography you will learn how to isolate circles on the lateral plane of the body.
